Quran Competition Kicks Off in Yemen’s Taizz
Contenders from various parts of the country are taking part in the contest for the first time this year, Al-Hekmah.net website reported.
The al-Sheybani Mosque in the city is hosting the competition, named Hajj Ahmed Abdullah al-Sheybani Award.
It is annually organized by al-Sheybani Charity Institute in cooperation with Al-Huda Quran Schools in Taizz.
Muhammad Abdul Daem, an official with the organizing committee, said 192 Quran activists from 32 Quran schools, societies and centers have taken part in the competition.
They compete in the categories of memorization of the entire Quran, memorization of ten and twenty Juzes (parts) of the Quran, Quran recitation and Hadiths, he said.
He noted that the Quranic event was first held five years ago and that every year a new category has been added to it.
A number of officials and representatives of Quranic centers and institutes, Quran teachers, and religious, educational and media personalities were present at the opening ceremony yesterday.
Quranic activities in Yemen are common even in the midst of a Saudi-led aggression against the country that has been going on since 2015.
